EARTH SOLAR SYSTEM
Earth is the third planet from the Sun in our Solar System. It's the only planet known to have life and is composed of a diverse range of ecosystems, climates, and environments. The Earth orbits the Sun at an average distance of about 93 million miles (150 million kilometers) and completes one orbit roughly every 365.25 days, which we define as a year. It also rotates on its axis, causing day and night cycles every approximately 24 hours.
The Earth is part of a system that includes the Sun, eight (formerly nine, including Pluto) planets, their moons, and various other objects such as asteroids and comets that orbit the Sun. This entire system is known as the Solar System. The Earth itself has one natural satellite, the Moon, which plays a crucial role in our planet's tides and has been a subject of exploration since the mid-20th century.
In addition to its natural features, Earth is characterized by its atmosphere, which supports life by providing oxygen, regulating temperature, and protecting us from harmful solar radiation. The study of Earth and its place in the universe is fundamental to fields such as astronomy, geology, biology, and environmental science.
